Introduction to Ballston

Ballston is located in Arlington County. Like many neighborhoods in the area, it is urban, but also full of history.

This neighborhood extends from Route 120 in the west to North Kirkwood Road in the East. Interstate 66 defines the northern boundary and Wilson Boulevard the southern extent of the neighborhood. It is very convenient for public transit and, in and of itself, offers plenty to do with in its borders. Houses for sale in Ballston are mostly condominium properties.

Ballston is a busy area. One of the most notable amenities within the neighborhood is the Ballston Common Mall. This is a completely enclosed development, located at North Glebe Road and Wilson Boulevard.

There are quite a few notable organizations and events in the neighborhood. The National Science Foundation is headquartered here. It is also home to a training facility for the NHL, called the Iceplex, which includes two rinks.

The area is also famous for its food festival. Called Taste of Arlington, it has been held for well over 20 years and offers plenty of different kinds of fare to sample. The event is held for charity and has drawn more than 10,000 people to the neighborhood in past years.

The government has a strong presence here, as well. The Coast Gard, US Fish and Wildlife Service and Office of Naval Research all have facilities here. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), which was the agency most responsible for developing the Internet, also has facilities here.

This is also a major center for education. George Washington University, Virginia Tech and Marymount University all have facilities located within the area.

Non-profit organizations also have major facilities here, including The Nature Conservancy.

Practical amenities include the Orange Line Ballston Metrorail station. This neighborhood is full of restaurants and other establishments to explore.

Ballston is a neighborhood within the larger Arlington market.

The homes for sale in Ballston are largely located in complexes, with some townhomes being available, as well. Most of the floor plans are one- and two-bedrooms at the most, with a much smaller percentage of the houses for sale in Ballston having three- and four-bedroom designs.

The majority of the homes for sale in Ballston were built between 2000 and the present. The 1970s through the end of the 20th Century saw substantial, but a lesser amount, of construction, as well.

Eastview is located on Randolph Street North. Like many Ballston homes for sale, these are condominium properties. The building in which they are located was formerly an apartment complex, but has since been converted to condos, allowing an option for permanent residences.

This complex has amenities on site, including business facilities. There is also a swimming pool on the grounds and a place to get a workout, as well. There are spaces for parking in a garage. The development boasts just more than 225 units. It has very convenient access to public transit.


Westview is another condominium complex offering property for sale in Ballston. It is associated with the aforementioned Eastview condominium development and, like that property, this was originally an apartment complex. It has amenities that include a fitness center, a swimming pool and parking, provided in a garage. This is slightly smaller than Eastview, with 185 residences in total. It also offers easy access to the Ballston Metro, a popular public transit option.
